At age 6 I was diagnosed with Leukemia (ALL) at that time the survival rate was 50/50 chance of surviving 12 months.
I was treated at the City of Hope Medical Center for 3 years with intense chemotherapy cocktails.
Being so young and fighting for my life forced me to grow up very quickly. I missed out on some childhood milestones. But I gained so much more from my experience.
I learned the fragility of life, I learned to celebrate life and I learned to cherish those you love. Now as an adult survivor of childhood cancer, I feel it is my duty to share my triumph and give others hope.
That is why I created Luna Peak Co. with my niece, Gracelyn Bateman. We take photos of cancer survivors and thrivers. We also interview them to learn how they coped with diagnosis and to give words of advice for newly diagnosed patients.
I have been so lucky to have a huge support team behind me. I have a large family that cared for me and continue to support my efforts in the cancer community.
I met my husband when I was 16 years old and my story inspired him to study medicine and become a haematologist/oncologist. I am also fortunate to have been able to have 3 beautiful sons.
My cancer journey was not easy, but I would not change a thing.
