Natasha Dias: 30 years old, Montreal,Canada
I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in December 2018. This was 3 months after giving birth to my second child. I didn’t even get the time to get back to my pre-pregnancy self. I was exhausted and felt like I was in between two versions of myself.
Going from pregnancy to tending to the needs of a newborn and then straight to being diagnosed with cancer was really tough for me. The hardest part was waiting for the results of my PET scan, we knew it was at least stage 3 because I also had a large tumour in my lymph nodes but we had no idea if it had spread beyond my lymph nodes. I spent sleepless nights thinking I had cancer everywhere, the minute I had an itch or small pain I was convinced it had spread but it hadn’t.
Within 24 hours of being diagnosed, I wiped my tears away and something inside me lit up like a wildfire. Treatment wasn’t starting for another month, but I refused to sit around and wait for the healing process to begin. I felt a strong urge to take matters into my own hands till treatment started, I needed to play a proactive role in getting rid of this cancer.
I immediately began fasting for 24 hours once or twice a week, starting juicing several times a day (celery juice every morning), I exercised, started meditating and praying, cut red meat and sugars from my diet, and started drinking distilled water and herbs known to fight cancer. I reached out to several cancer survivors and thrivers online and read up on all the information that was available on fighting cancer.
By the time chemotherapy started, I was feeling strong, positive and even lost all my pregnancy weight. I honestly felt better than I ever had and I was ready to nip this cancer in the butt!! I followed my instincts and I did what felt right to me.
